How To Commission An Original Artwork
Photographs: Providing a photograph of the subject is the simplest way to begin the process of having a portrait or artwork made. In many cases photographs from the subject's past have been used as a reference and this method also allows the commissioner and/or the subject to chose as a reference a particular image of their liking. Also expecting young children to sit still for a portrait session is impractical and animals pretty much impossible.
Photographs can be replicated faithfully in pencil or oils or used merely as a guide to the subject's character. Simply discuss wth Fiona your requirements and expectations
Sittings: If possible the ideal way to approach a portrait is for the subject to attend a one-to-one sitting with the artist. The more time the subject has for this the better of course, but even a single half hour session gives the artist a chance to do preparatory sketches and to discuss the portrait with the subject to help acheive the best possible outcome. Obviously suitable reference photographs from this session can be utilised as well.
The commissioner may desire the sitting to be in a particular location but if this isn't the case Fiona has a comfortable studio at her home in Melbourne's inner north.
How Long Will It Take?: There are many factors to be taken in to consideration when determining how long a portrait will take to complete,from the complexity of the image to the size of the canvas itself.
If the artwork is required before a certain date please establish this when making your initial enquiry and once agreed every effort will be made in delivering the piece within this pre-arranged timeframe.
How Much Will It Cost?: All commissioned works are priced upon negotiation based on the criteria above.
Prices start from $300 (Australian) for an unmounted 8 x 10" pencil portrait on quality acid-free paper as shown here, and from $450 for a head and shoulder portrait in oils on 30cm x 30cm stretched canvas.
